I do really miss that sharp styling of the earlier versions of Zorin versus the slightly more flat versions we have now. I've been debating trying to make a theme to emulate what it used to be, just haven't had the time to go through and try to make it work.
I do also really like that blue animated wallpaper as well. Wish that could come back.
I don't know if the 'system-tray' part of the panel is still available but I did manage to discover it was in the Debian repos quite a few years back. It was called AWN (Avant Window Navigator Panel. The problem with it was that if you changed the theme colours on the rest of the desktop the background was always white. I decided to experiment, and got a transparent panel on Pear Linux:
