Zorin OS 17.3 lite: thunar empty date modified column and moving icons on desktop

Hi,
since a while I have two problems with Zorin OS 17.3 lite. In particular, on thunar the date modified and date created columns are empty. I am not sure if I did something wrong, but I do not think so.
Moreover, the desktop icons keep moving among various reboots.
Thank you

"When in Detailed List mode, you have the option of configuring which columns are visible by selecting ViewConfigure Columns... from the main menu. Alternatively you can just right-click on any column head.

Visible Columns
Select the columns you want to be displayed from the list of available columns."

from:

Edit: This probably doesn't help you as the columns headers are shown. When they are disabled they don't appear in the titlebar.

Is this on your primary drive or on external ones i.e., USB, network shares, etc?

This is unfortunately a known issue, although this is the first I hear about it affecting Zorin OS Lite... You can try this temporary workaround and see if it helps; I'm curious to see if it would actually do anything since this should be for Zorin OS Core only.

It would not - Gnome lacks many features which are added (or re-added back in) using extensions.
XFCE, Mate, Cinnamon etc do not have that feature reduction, therefor do not need or use extensions.

@alfio, are you using more than one monitor?

Do you have "automatically arrange icons" enabled?

What is your terminal output of:

echo $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP

I thought that since XFCE uses things like gsettings, similar to Gnome, maybe the extension system was also that could be added. A long shot, but always worth trying... This is indeed the first time I've heard of or seen something like this happening on XFCE.

Same - and looking into it; it is Very Rare...

Right, I have the same settings as you. The column is visible, while the content is missing.

Primary (SSD sata3) and secondary (HDD sata3).
I am using zorin os lite 17.3 education so the command: gnome-extensions disable zorin-desktop-icons@zorinos.com does not work.
Is it possible to upgrade from lite to standard version? Will the former one be deprecated with 18?
Thank you

I am using just one monitor, it is a 13 years old PC.

No

echo $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP
XFCE

I think it is not possible to upgrade from Zorin lite (education) to Zorin core (education). But Zorin lite will still be available in Zorin 18 so you can upgrade your version.

In this thread in the last post a workaround is suggested by using chattr +i.
But with this command you can't simply change the icons in future or add new ones - first you would have to undo this command. So I'm not sure if it is practicable for you.
Edit: I tried it on my system LinuxMint XFCE and it didn't work.
(chattr: Operation is not supported when reading the flags in ...)

You could also try to enable the default icons for the desktop (right-click click on desktop>desktop settings>icons) for home directory, filesystem and trash and look if then your icons are still moving. I once had read somewhere that this "reserved" place can sometimes make troubles. Perhaps it is enough to enable home.

Hi,
I installed gnome desktop via sudo apt install --reinstall zorin-os-desktop
It solves the problems mentioned above.
