I have already posted elsewhere, KDE Plasma has it's flaws too, because Widgets (like Extensions) have to be updated by the author to meet the latest release of Plasma (Gnome).
GNOME is funded by corporations that need it for enterprise usage. Their corporate backers want a stable workstation, not a pleasant, fun-to-use consumer DE. When I realized that a few months ago, everything else made sense. And rather than fighting with GNOME, I've moved on to KDE Plasma for newer hardware and Mint with Cinnamon or XFCE for older hardware.
KDE is funded by Corpo's, too.
Well, that there are Gnome Extensions that doesn't run good is no Secret I guess. And that You have the awful Situation that after a new Main Version Extensions doesn't work, too. And like every Software, they can be unstable or unsecure.
Are all Extensions like that? No. Are all Extensions good working, well maintained and stable? No.
At the End these Extensions exist because the actual Gnome Desktop has limited Functions. So, People try to compensate that with own Software. That works sometimes better and sometimes not.
Is that a good Situation? No, it isn't.
