Well you're not wrong. But they gave us Zorin - for free. So I'm grateful for that. Also for the generosity of the moderators here with their time. Time is the real currency.
take a look at this maybe it could help:
no it's exactly the same, you have a repo who make this problem... Fatal Error: { error-repo-download-failed:
I agree with @Nourpon
This looks malformed, to me.
You can comment it out in your sources (Elevate to Root, first) and then test running the Zorin Upgrader.
I can understand you are noob in Linux, but you want to upgrade distro with a beta upgrader, pretty risky I think. But it's your choice and if you want to do that you have to learn some basics, read this maybe you will understand what we are talking about:
you are On Zorin since 16 and you never had to add or remove a repo? If you says so... As an IT consultant I'm sure you was able to find the solution just tipping your error in Google search, so it will be easy for you to understand what talk about the link I sent. Good luck...
Hallelujah! Another user has seen the light.
Yes, you can launch the file manager as root:
nautilus admin:/
In the left pane, select "Other location" then in the right pane, select your computer.
Navigate along the tree: /etc/apt/sources.list
When you reach sources.list, right click and open with your Text editor.
Move to the line that has http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu noble Release and place a hashtag right at the front - that is commenting it out.
#http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu noble Release
Save the file, then close out the elevated file manager and text editor.
Make sure all is well in terminal with a quick
sudo apt update
and watch for any errors.
If none - test the upgrader.
What we see on this forum is a clear demonstration that they don't. People know what they want and will persist. They don't just give up at the first sign of trouble.
You haven't.
I mean, having been on Windows OS, they have experienced already chasing troubleshooting plenty.
I read where you said you never did - you are a rare lucky one. I had to fix Windows OS constantly, on my machine and all friends and family machines, for over a decade.
@Omnimaxus , the only reason is that they are consistently unresponsive. Since I posted that reply a couple of weeks ago, and I suppose you still haven't had any response from them, they're being pretty consistent with their lack of communication. No, it is not good. It is unprofessional too. It causes frustration, and will ultimately turn some people away from the OS itself.
Getting a PR won't help either because, as @Aravisian correctly pointed out, they would need to communicate with that person, and as communication itself is the bottle neck, it will persist. I don't think there is a solution to be honest. It is obviously deeply embedded behaviour, which we have to choose to accept, or not.
This kind of behaviour is something I'm accustomed to in a close family member. In person he will respond, awkwardly sometimes, but we'll get a response. However, with anything else... ... ... well, you may as well try talking to a black hole. It has caused numerous arguments, fights, and deeply hurt some people, losing relationships with many. I don't think he even notices most of the time. If he does, he's puzzled. After many years of consideration, I believe this person "is on the spectrum", by that I mean he has (to some lesser degree) Autism Spectrum Disorder.
I do not accept it as a paid customer. I have come to interpret their silence as a show of contempt and dismissal to me from them. And you know what? Everyone else should, too, for themselves. Time to stop subsidizing this unacceptable and unprofessional behavior until they change their ways (and focus on fixing bugs in Zorin OS and improving the UX completely). Action from them would speak volumes, and help re-earn trust from the community.
@Omnimaxus, I have edited your post not due to the portion I changed as much as to that it has repeated.
I cannot vouch for developer silence; I will still operate fully within the contexts of what I agreed to do.
The guidelines are still in operation.
And I think my chosen wording has a bit more punch.
Got an email this morning. It is ready to use the update tool. ![]()
Good luck. Please let everyone know how it goes.
Good, without any problems.
