Bad audio Asus zephyrus g14 2024

Is ZorinOS 17.2 Core the only Linux distro you have tried?
Note Z17.3 will have a later kernel 6.11, when it is released by the devs Feb/March 2025. Ref: NVram Locked (Zorin not found in efibootmgr) - #14 by AZorin

Others on the forum should be able to assist with any kernel change if needed.

yes, only zorin. So do you recommend to wait feb/march or try another kernel?

i'm thinking to switch to popOS for the gpu selector

I would suggest at least "Try" a distro that has later kernel, by running in "Live Mode" from USB to see if sound is OK, before installing.

But PopOS has kernel 6.9 according to AZorin in his post I linked above.

in general newer kernel means less problems? Which is the distro with newest kernel?

It's not necessarily that a newer kernel would mean less problems, it just has other support built in for newer things. This can sometimes cause an issue with other things, and sometimes there are regressions in the kernel that cause other issues. It's just another variable to try.

As for a distro with a newer kernel, you could try some arch based distro like Endeavour OS as that would be used just for testing and would contain a very recent kernel.

Not at all. New kernel should support newer hardware. But may come with new problems.

I can't try new distros now, but I'll try in about 10 days Endeavor OS and I will let you know, thank you all for your help

Only for the Case, You want to try it with a newer Kernel, here some Sources, who explain it:

This explains it, how You can do it with the Command Line or with a GUI-Tool. for the GUI-Tool here is a Video which shows it in Practise and explains it:

Like i said earlier, you probably need to enable a pin override for that. My acer unit had also zero bass output till i override a pin.

hi, now I have fedora and the audio works perfectly, I would still like to thank everyone who worked hard to help me even if I'm not yet good with linux. should I mark the topic as concluded?

Well, that is up to You. When You are happy now, sure. If You want try a bit more, let it and look what Suggestions and Advices come and test them.

Mine on Pop! OS is looking like this

0 snd_hda_intel
1 snd_soc_skl_hda_dsp

Now i know my sound comes from

Which one is mine using ? snd_soc_skl_hda_dsp ? if so, why is the other one listed ?

On the Picture stands sof-hda-dsp. and that I guess stands for Your Option 1 because there stands hd_dsp. Option 0 is intel.

In windows i had a intel smartsound driver. Probably it’s that one

There have been known issues with getting the sof package working/availability for this type of hardware from recollection of previous posts about sound issues.

@swarfendor437 You are correct, it has come up before, but no "solution" e.g. Audio not working for HP Envy 17.3"

Webearch using searchterm "sof-hda-dsp ubuntu 22.04" gives several hits, e.g.
https://www.linux.org/threads/ubuntu-22-04-audio-issue.48516/page-2

That suggests you may need to use a later kernel with that hardware.

I guess I should be thankful my Asus Zephyrus G15 has zero issues. It's been surprisingly compatible with every Linux distro I've tried so far. Sad to hear that newer versions like the one you have has issues. :frowning:

Did you try a equalizer ? @matteo

For pipewire: Install Easy Effects on Linux | Flathub

For pulseaudio: Install PulseEffects on Linux | Flathub

I got pipewire updates a few days ago and noticed my sound got improved alot. I have the sound set to 60% now and its still loud, while a week or 2 ago i had my sound at 90-95%.

Awesome!
