Cant go back xorg after using wayland, login screen loop

I activated wayland once for zorin, and since then I can't select the "Zorin desktop" option in login to use xorg, it gives a brief black screen and then goes back to the login screen, even though I have wayland as false in the custom.conf, please help me, I don't want to do a fresh install

Using the recovery menu > Drop to root prompt
Can you try:

sudo rm /var/lib/AccountsService/users/$USER

sudo systemctl restart gdm3

Reboot and test...

didn't work unfortunately, keeps getting back to login after I submit the password, any other ideas?

You can try

rm ~/.Xauthority ~/.ICEauthority

boot and test...

It says there's no file or directory for those, not working yet. I'll include that I've already tried reinstalling nvidia drivers, any other ideas?

Sadly, no. I am stumped.
And you are selecting the option Zorin Desktop on Xorg not the option Zorin desktop at login, right?

Oh, I'm selecting "Zorin desktop", there's no 'on Xorg' option, maybe that's it?

Please see this thread:

It should show those two options...

Oh, is there anyway to add this option or recover it?

What options does the login screen show?

"Zorin Desktop", "Ubuntu", "Openbox". but those last two I accidentally added while trying to solve the issue :frowning:

Should I just reinstall it? I switched to wayland in the first place because I have a 144hz and a 60hz monitor and the animations on the 144 were all 60hz in xorg. Any ideas on that last thing about the options?

Urm...
LOL
If reinstalling is a fine open option for you, it is the path I would recommend.

When you ended up with Openbox installed... that is quite an event trail to trace backward.

lol, I don't how I got in this situation to be honest, I'll try to reinstall it, I just have to store my ssh keys somewhere to recover them

Before You make a fresh Installation, You could try it with a sudo apt reinstall zorin-os-desktop gdm3

That reinstalls the Zorin Desktop and the Login Screen.

dude, I did a fresh install, I was using xorg as happy as I've never been, the moment I started selecting new options on zorin appearance with the taskbar and those things, THE SCREEN FROZE AND WHEN I REBOOTED, I WENT INTO A LOGIN LOOP AGAIN, ANY IDEAS? ON HOW TO RESET ZORIN APPEARANCE AND ALL UI SETTING???

now I created a new user and I could use xorg with no problem, how to reset all xorg ui config on zorin? maybe that's a bug?

I responded here.

In the meantime, you might submit a bug report that details the exact changes you made.
Scroll to the bottom, then select the button for Support to the right of business:

When you have these Problems now, do You come in Your System? If yes, maybe a simple Reinstallation from Zorin Appearance could help. To do that, type in the Terminal:

sudo apt reinstall zorin-appearance zorin-appearance-layouts-support zorin-appearance-layouts-shell-core
