The User @swarfendor437 gave the Info about a current Version Issue from WebKit. That can lead to the Problem that Programs don't start at all.

Broken Evolution, KDenlive and DigiKam

Since a few days the mentioned programs are no longer working.

Evolution does start but does not show the contents of an email. The CPU spikes to 100%.

KDenlive and Digikam tries to start but break of somewhere during starting.

I'm not sure when this first appeared, but it should be somewhere around 24 or 25 September.

I'm at a loss what happened that broke those applications. It probably was an update, I'm not sure.

I tried to do a sudo flatpak repair and a sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade but that didn't solve anything.

  • Evolution is an APT install (3.52.3)

  • Digikam is a flatpak install (9.1.0)

  • KDenlive is a flatpak install (26.08.1)

Any suggestions how to proceed and solve these issues?

Is this related to the Webkit problems?

Update: I followed a hint mentioned by helkaluin on the ubuntu forum to clean the font cache with command fc-cache -fv
Result was immediate for Evolution, it shows the email contents again.

Update #2: Digikam and KDenlive are also working again!

Well I reinstalled hidamari and im pleased to say the video errors i was getting last time i used it when exiting games is gone. I havnt tryed it on Zorin yet tho at 1st of month when i swap back to zorin ill post results. I use zorin from 1st to 15th of month then swap to Ubuntu 26.04 16th to end of month

I would like to see options to select Gnome 51 or KDE Plasma.

That said, I could not start OpenRGB a few days ago and solved it by clearing the Fontconfig Cache.

Also, Evolution starts up fine with no problems but I fired it up after I cleared the fontconfig cache.

Well if its helpful on ubuntu 26.04 there was some kind of web something update it went by kinda fast as there was only 3 things updateing

Gnome 51 is freshly released. You only will get that on Rolling Release Distros. That is for the current Plasma Version, too.

dont do rolling releases unless ya like not have your computer...alot...lol

Is Evolution working again? In an earlier post you only mentioned the other two apps.

@wesoliv429 You must be a fan of Wayland? You can't get access to xorg in Gnome 50+, or KDE 7.0.

@wesoliv429 The only rolling release I trust is Q4OS. :wink: Never had an issue. Started on "aquarius" 5.5, now on 5.10.

Thanks for the correction. I am only using 6.3.6 on one OS and 5.27 on the other but plan to migrate to 6.3.6 in due course.

Maybe You will benefit from the new Plasma LTS Desktop Version on one of Your Distro's.

@swarfendor437 Well thats why I got the RX 6600xt amd vid card so it dont matter what Im in wayland ,X11 whatever they come up with next. I do have the nvidia 3050 tho...Its in the backup computer. only pull it out once a month to update the drive

Yes, Evolution, Digikam, and KDenlive all started working again. Also after the reboot.

Q4OS is an LTS. Debian 12 "aquarius" expires June 2028 and Debian 13 "andromeda" June 2030. I understand pure Debian will offer Extended LTS until 2035!

I meant the new LTS Support from KDE for Plasma 6.6.
