Partition(s) 1, 2, 3 on /dev/sda have been written, but we have been unable to inform the kernel of the change, probably because It/they are in use. As a result, the old partition(s) will remain in use. You should reboot now before making further changes.
I experienced this during installation of 17.3 several times. I can't recall how I got around it unfortunately, but it was one of a few errors I had installing 17.3 that I never had on 17.1 or 17.2. I'm not sure where things changed, but I just don't find the 17.3 installer as stable. If you find yourself unable to work around this, you might see if you can get a 17.2 ISO from a mirror, install that, and then upgrade in place to 17.3.
Welcome to the Forum!
- Is this a Dual-Boot System?
- If yes: Is Fast Start-Up in Windows disabled?
- Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled?
- Did You installed Zorin over an old Installation?
- What Installation Option did You choose? Install Zorin alongside Windows, Erase disk or Manual Partition?
Do you try to install Zorin with encryption or do you want to install it on an encrypted drive?
Wdm? I'm installing it on my C: to replace windows.
I'm trying to install Zorin OS, but I'm facing an issue. I've ruled out the option of a dual-boot system, as I'm aware of the potential conflicts with Windows updates. The problem is that during the installation process, I never reach the screen where I'm asked to choose between a dual-boot or a disk wipe. Instead, right after the network connection page, it skips directly to the 'Installation type' screen."
Thanks, I'll try it as a last resort. Which server do u suggest?
That's going to depend a lot on where you are in the world. The best server for me might be awfully slow for you. Being on the east coast of the USA, I would probably use the University of Maryland server: Index of /zorin/17/
These are your options: Thanks for downloading Zorin OS 17.3 Core - Zorin OS
On that page click the Download from a different server button to open the list of mirrors, then find the mirror that's closest to you. If you just click the link, it's going to give you the 17.3 ISO again. You'll want to copy the link, paste it in your browser, and then delete the actual ISO part of the URL so you're going to the directory for Zorin 17 instead, like in my University of Maryland link above. For ease of reading, that link looks like this when the forum isn't parsing it: https://zorin.com/os/download/17/core/
If we understand the same with that, that should be the Screen where You can choose.
One Thing what I woulld suggest: Try the Installation offline - without an Internet Connection.
Make sure that secure boot and fast boot in your BIOS are turned off and fast startup in Windows is disabled. Then shutdown your computer and insert the Zorin stick.
When you want a single boot with Zorin without Windows choose the option "Erase disk and install Zorin OS".
This option will delete all your datas on your drive and then install Zorin.
Hi, I'm still having the same problem. During the installation of Zorin OS on my Lenovo IdeaPad s145-15AST, the program skips the "Installation type" page, going directly from "Update and other software" to the final page."
Your drive isn't recognized at all.
Which tool did you use to create the bootstick?
Is your BIOS set to AHCI or RAID?
Is your BIOS set to legacy or UEFI?
Can you please answer the question, if secure boot, fast boot and fast startup are disabled? It is important.
You can take a look here:
Hmm ... it seems that Your Drive isn't detected - at least not in the Way it should. On Your 2nd Picture is on the Boot Loader Option a Device chosen. so, for me it looks like, it detects ''something''.
How is Your Drive formatted? Another Thing: the Option 'Install third-party software ...'' is checked. When You uncheck it, does it change?
So, I created the bootstick with BalenaEtcher. I disabled Secure Boot and set the BIOS to UEFI, but in the BIOS, neither the Fast Boot option nor the SATA settings are available
That is here the Thing. The other 2 seems to be USB Sticks I guess? But this one WDC SN520 should be Your Drive. But You also see that there are shown as unknown.
2 Questions here:
- Are there any Data on this Drive? An OS, BackUp's whatever?
- Is this Screenshot from the Zorin Live USB?
It shows You this because it seems to detect Your SanDisk USB Stick (You can see it on the Boot Loader Option).
But let me come back to my Questions:
If there are no Data on the Drive that You still need and You are show this from the Zorin Live Mode from the USB Stick, we can do something. When You are in the Live Mode, search for GParted. Open it, choose Your Drive and delete every Partition. Then take the whole Space and format it to ext4
and let the Program do it. After this try again the Installation.
Hi, I have only the .iso in the drive and this is the Live mode. I did as you said and here what I see.
When you run gparted from the Zorin live USB stick (choose the "Try Zorin" mode before) select the drive you want Zorin to install on, not the usb sticks.
Click in the headerbar on gparted>refresh devices, then select the nvme in the upper right corner. Note: Click not on /dev/sda as on the picture but on /dev/nvme0n1
To me it seems as you have selected the usb stick because it shows dev/sda and your drive is a nvme and should be named dev/nvme0n1.
Then delete all partitions (only if you want to delete all datas on the drive!!!).
When you move the windows so that both windows are visible we can see better what the partition size is and if it is the right drive (you can take a screenshot here again)
@Alessa you may need to first confirm this. Boot to Windows and launch diskmgmt, check if the partitions are labelled with Bitlocker encryption. If yes, then you need to disable them first and then try installing Zorin.
If the above still doesn't help Zorin detecting your nvme drive then you may check for any errors in that drive. The following articles have the instructions how to diagnose, check them both.
