OK, while I was installing Zorin OS 18 on windows which I selected as along side with windows boot manager because I have a separate SSDs and wanted to do dual-booting, i then had a error pop up that saying “failed to create file system” on partion 2 which is second SSD and I couldn’t click ok it just won’t let me press so I went back to windows and I see the second SSD already created which is strange so I deleted the volume. How do I fix this? Please help. Thanks.
Maybe because I have Healthy 512mb UEFI on second disk/SSD?
If you selected "install alongside windows" and changed the amount windows versus zorin was going to get, then I believe it would default to installing on the same drive. That's from memory, but I'm fairly certain that's how it works.
As for why it may have failed, did you verify the iso that you downloaded? I know I've had corrupt ISO images before, and almost every time it would lead to a failure at the install stage. Usually during the creation of the partitions on said drives.
Yes I downloaded from official website.
I didn’t changed amount and there wasn’t, just automatically does it for me.
Even though you downloaded it from the Zorin website, the ISO can still get corrupted during download. That's why you should always verify the ISO (from any distro) before using, so that you know it's a good copy:
As for the automated install beside Windows, what that does is it's going to install the OS beside Windows on the same drive that it occupies. From what it sounds like, that's not what you're going to be wanting. You will probably have to select the "something else" option and select the right disk and format it appropriately, or the "Erase Disk" option and MAKE SURE IT SELECTS THE RIGHT DISK, otherwise data loss WILL occur. As always, I recommend backups of everything you have, in case things go sideways (it happens to the best of us).
There are other posts, even on this forum, that go through the exact same steps that I believe you're talking about:
Ok well I didn’t skipped the checking file system that you mentioned.
@applecheeks37 was not referring to file-system check in the first part of the reply, he is referring to a corrupted download. You need to run SHA256 checksum to verify the iso generates the published Hash key which has nothing to do with file system integrity check during live boot prior to installation.
You have stated you have 2 SSD's. If Windows is running OK I would remove that SSD, and reinstall Zorin using Ventoy which has a MOK utility to enrol the EFI key alongside Windows one in EFI.
Then replace the Windows SSD, boot into the BIOS and make Zorin the first drive to boot off. Once you have done that update GRUB which should then pick up Windows and add it to GRUB, then make sure Zorin always boots first and then choose Windows from the GRUB menu.
@worthless,
Let's cover two things:
First, can you provide a screenshot of your open Gparted or Disks Utility, so we can get some idea of the partitions - and try to narrow down what went wrong here.
Your issue sounds like it could be something pretty easy to fix: If the file system was not created, running the live installer on that partition and setting root mount point to / may be all you need to do.
But we want to make sure that your partitions are proper, to save you even more hassle.
Second, you notice an option to Edit your posts. Please use that as often as it is available, rather than streaming multiple posts in a row.
It's like being polite to the person that cooks your food. There is no hard and fast rule here about Multiple posts. But your consideration to helpers helps the helpers feel motivated.
? No im currently using it not Zorin
So should I redownload iso and then choose alongside with windows boot manager again to see if works?
Also I didn’t installed on virtual machine, i accidentally clicked solution not sure why I did, I figured it out how to install windows.
?!?????? Hello
I’m asking for help but you guys aren’t help me and I’m still stuck at this progress. Do I just redownload .ISO and redo and then click install along side with windows boot manager again and should work?
You missed this part I guess:
You have to try it and see if that works or not. As the root cause of your issue is still unknown, it can't be said for sure whether it will work or not.
And do take screenshots of errors if you face any, and attach them with your post for better understanding.
Oh ok
I can’t provide screenshot but here is it:
Disk 0 Basic 1863 GB: 1863 GB NTFS Healthy.
Disk 1 Basic 1863 GB: 512 MB Healthy (EFI System Partition) | 1862.52 GB Unallocated.
Ok I went with something else but on nvme1n1 it’s empty so no windows, but I see windows boot manager in it and im not sure why.
So which do I choose? 1 free space or should I just go for /dev/nvme1n1? which is also have /dev/nvme1n1p1 efi Windows Boot Manager too. I don’t see OS type on the first nvme but I have windows installed.
Ok well it just said “the ext4 file system creation in partition #2 of /dev/nvme1n1 failed”
