Goodbye, Zorin!

As a used-to-be windows user, i got Zorin OS to transition into linux because its alot like windows. After like 8 months i'm switching to KDE Neon because i found that i love KDE Plasma.

Now that i am used to linux, goodbye zorin

It's not goodbye, just many stops on a long journey. We'll see ya around...

I think this is one of the things Zorin OS does very well. Sort of a gentle introduction to Linux. A little bumpy at times, maybe, but that's just the way things are.

There have been plenty of people around here who have moved on to other distributions, and many of the most active members here don't even run Zorin OS primarily, myself included! I only use it to install it in other people's computers, since it's such an easy system to use.

So, feel free to come back and say hi anytime. Enjoy KDE Plasma!

6 posts were split to a new topic: Hiject Extract: distro building

You might want to try some Plasma alternatives, Q4OS with it's own 'Look Switcher' (downside has systemd), or PCLOS Debian (no systemd, no pulseaudio, but pipewire out of the box - even has zen browser in it's synaptic package manager) or go for bleeding edge Artix Linux Plasma Community edition with XLibre compositor and also no systemd - instead, different Plasma .isos with different init, (dinit, openrc, runit, s6). :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

If that is what You like, use it. No one would blame You for this. That is the good Thing when You have a Choice what to use.

I'd like to put it on record, I am still using Zorin OS as my primary distro, I no longer distro hop. Zorin OS has got what I need.

PS: Have any of you drank Mango juice from Naked? Its really good! :face_savoring_food:

Yeah random I know, but I finally found something that tastes really good, its thick too, not liquidy like apple juice. It makes you think you just made this stuff in a blender, just without the ice chunk attack lol.

I find myself compelled to mention this anytime someone screenshots KDE: you can get rid of that gap below the taskbar by right clicking, choosing edit, and unchecking the floating option. If the gap is to your liking, then by all means, carry on--but it drives me absolutely insane and is the first thing I fix on any KDE distro I try. I'm unable to look at a screenshot like that and not mention it one time. <_<

That said: while I keep ending up back on Zorin, it's mainly for this forum and its regulars. I routinely look at other, KDE-based options, as I prefer it strongly too.

From personal experience I had to enable floating panel in Q4OS as default is like traditional Windows:

Besides I have seen posts on the forum by users who want the floating panel in Zorin, which is possible.

This is the beauty of GNU/Linux over closed source; you can choose how your desktop appears.

Yep, I am absolutely not saying people SHOULD set their desktop up how I want it--I'm only pointing out a tweak so they don't have to look for it, should it annoy someone as much as it does me. It's a small thing, but it's like a papercut on a knuckle: completely maddening.

This applies to me, too. I do value this forum and the community. Right now, I am on Debian 13 XFCE and enjoying it. But will I come back to Zorin? Waiting for Zorin 18 to come out before I decide for sure. But yes. The forum has been a reason why I came back time and time again. I totally get what you mean here. You're not alone.

I hear ya Star. I only use 2 myself. One is Zorin. And the other isn't.
No longer have the time, nor inclination to distro hop.

Enjoy your Mighty Mango

of course im keeping the gap its so cool

Less is more.

I've suggested to a distro hopper elsewhere, he or she could simply learn how to make decisions before moving on to another distro.

You're not alone! As others mentioned here, several of us in this forum no longer have Zorin as our daily driver, but it's a great forum with really friendly people so we stick around.

KDE's Neon blew me away when I first installed it. IMO, it's the best looking distro out of the box, especially for those coming over from Windows 10. It has a bit of the same feel and is highly customizable.

My present daily driver is Mint, mainly because it works better with all the apps that I use for work and play (including a small recording studio).

I actually ran KDE Neon for a while a few years ago I want to say. Honestly very good, just ended up getting irked from KDEs rough edges here and there enough to run away and go back to good ole XFCE. But it was good enough to stay on my system for at least a few months, that's better than 99% of distros I try.
