And I'd be using more ports, but society forces us into WIFI these days. And though I could probably connect my Zorin machine up via ethernet too, I would need to buy a set of new ethernet cables. Cause I just have patch cables left, and patch cables don't seem to work.

If I remember my early networking training from when I was still in HS, I believe patch cables are used to connect two computers together to communicate with each other, without the use of a standard network.

i did eveything that you told me to do but im at the that downloaded thethe driver but now im at the part that it tell me to put down cd 88x2bu but it says no such file or directory what do i do and how do i put it in a file

im now at this point where do i go next

@ericthered45, did you get your wifi card to work ?

For people who has the same AC1300 usb stick, if you upgraded to kernel 5.15 then your driver does not work anymore (from post 13). I found a new solution, working now with kernel 5.15

git clone "https://github.com/RinCat/RTL88x2BU-Linux-Driver.git" /usr/src/rtl88x2bu-git
sed -i 's/PACKAGE_VERSION="@PKGVER@"/PACKAGE_VERSION="git"/g' /usr/src/rtl88x2bu-git/dkms.conf
dkms add -m rtl88x2bu -v git
dkms autoinstall

Just wanted to share that this old laptop even works great with Linux with hdmi + a dvd. My wife wanted to watch home alone 2 on dvd and tried everything to turn the movie on (for some reason the ps3 refused). I told her to use her laptop for that, will you do it for me ? I never tried it she said ... Sure i will.

Awesome isn't it, Microsoft like to break hardware. That's why my wife wanted me to install Linux on her laptop after her wifi got killed by microsoft duo forced updates. She was not even get asked to update, microsoft desided that for her. After the reboot her wifi was dead/gone, tried Zorin OS 16 and Pop! OS to see if the card got detected but nope...completly dead.

Always operating system have two sides and somethings are good and bad. I am not judgement people who creating a system. Why? Sometimes they are pressing to out because a time or another things what not exactly was tested. This is not only with hardware what i put examples. Sometimes it was a line processors where many laptops with fail processor was release to shops. Then we must blame a Intel for that like any another things. The corporation must know that a people lost respect for product when they are will brick or will be broken. Corporation losing many money for that. Check on ebay example how many refubish computers or laptops are for selling because some electronics died.
On this channel this guy repair electronic.

This is not my channel but here we can saw how this a man can find what usually died any model manufactured. The some models cost thousand $$
So who we need blame operating system or hardware manufactured fabric where it comes?
