I'm having a problem with games like Roblox—they lag when I use Zorin, and my computer itself starts to lag a bit when I have Zorin running, and I don't know why. My laptop has a 1650 graphics card and an AMD 5500U processor.
I'm thinking of switching to the Core version to see if there are any issues there, since I'm having major problems with the Pro version.
Which nvidia driver do you use? Are you running on XOrg or Wayland?
I'm using the last 580 available I'm new to Linux and I don't know what XOrg or Wayland are
I want to switch completely to Linux
Now I'm going to test whether I'll have this problem with Zorin 18 Core
I would stay with Pro. It probably will be the same in Core. Try first to solve the problem.
What is the terminal output of
echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
I switched the Thread Category from Chat about Zorin to General Help because You have here a Help Request.
Let me ask some Questions:
- Are Secure Boot and Fast Boot in BIOS disabled?
- If Windows is still installed: Is Fast Start -Up in Windows disabled?
- Does Your System run in Wayland or X11? You can check that with the Terminal Command echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE or if You prefer the graphical Way go to Settings>System>System Details>Info
- Did You installed Zorin with Nvidia Drivers or without?
- Do You play Games in Steam? If yes: Is Steam installed as Flatpak or .deb/APT Version?
To display stuff on your monitor, Zorin offers two types of display protocols: Xorg and Wayland. Xorg is older and a bit more stable if you're experiencing bugs, so that's why @Forpli asked. Wayland is the default because it's a bit more secure and best to use if you're not having issues.
brembo@Aspire:~$ echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
x11
What about:
glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"
brembo@Aspire:~$ glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"
OpenGL renderer string: AMD Radeon Graphics (radeonsi, renoir, ACO, DRM 3.64, 6.17.0-19-generic)
brembo@Aspire:~$
This shows that you are running the Minecraft title on the much weaker GPU and not using the Nvidia 1650 at all.
What about:
nvidia-smi
Is your monitor plugged into the Nvidia Port, not the Motherboard port?
gtx 1650
driver 590
Does
prime-run glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"
Also show Nvidia 1650?
If is does, test launching Minecraft (whatever the command in terminal launches it, I do not know...) preceded with
prime-run
So for example, let's say "minecraft-launcher" is the terminal command to launch Minecraft:
prime-run minecraft-launcher
let me try
yea nvidia 1650
Above you wrote
and then you write
Which of them do you use?
I'm asking because I have read something about 1000er series not supported by the latest nvidia drivers.
These are the 10XX Cards. The here mentioned 1650 is still supported with the 590 Driver.
@brembo: You could try it with an older Kernel. On Startup choose on the GRUB Menu ''Advanced Options'' and there choose an older Kernel and start with that. then check if it runs better.
rn i swich to 590 driver
for now i don't have problem
but i have problem in sober crashing for no reason
