This forum software!

I don't know if this forum software is a product like phpBB and other forum software of the past or if it's bespoke stuff ZorinGroup built for their site, but can I just say that it's really, REALLY impressive? I've used a lot of forums in my years online, but the search for similar topics, the quoting/linking, the solution marking, and really everything else is just a step ahead of anything else of this sort I've seen anywhere. It really does contribute to the user experience.

It is powered by Discourse. It is a solid choice for communities. I use it for a few communities myself. Has a lot of integration. You can use a Docker to run it yourself or pay them to host it. Works great.

Speaking of UF - Here's my old account dated back to October 2004

Forum software? Hey, folks, what are you talking about? I am not so technically advanced to evaluate or understand the advantages and disadvantages of the desktop version, but I was really positively shocked when I accidentally got a full-fledged forum application installed on my android phone. I don't often sit at my home Linux computer, so this opportunity allows me to constantly follow what's happening in the forum, I can read topics in the city, in the bus or train, wherever and whenever I want. I'm also writing this post on my phone using this application. Wow! Cool! Well done! :+1:

zorin forum app for android ?? where can i get that ? never knew about that ...

Shame on me, I don't know exactly how it happend :man_facepalming:.
I guess I was trying to connect to the forum using the Google chrome browser on my phone, and at some point there was an offer to install the forum application. I was in a hurry and clicked OK carelessly. This is definitely not a google play app and could be a virus app. But there was a fully functional Zorin OS forum application and I'm really happy with that.

Some websites support what is called Progressive Web Applications. This is essentially a wrapper around a website so that it looks and feels like a native mobile or desktop app. It's a something of a supercharged bookmark and can be quite convenient to use.

Visit the website on the browser, click on the settings menu and you should see a "Add to Home Screen" button (if that particular website supports PWAs).
Firefox no longer supports PWAs so you have to "install" it using a Chromium-based browser such as Brave. However, you can install Fennec, which is a fork of Firefox with some of this nice functionality still in place.

PWAs are what Steve Jobs talked about in the early days of the iPhone. I don't think they are the ultimate solution to application packaging, they are extremely powerful and convenient for anything that doesn't require native performance. It's quite sad that Apple tried to move away from it, but you can see just how convenient PWAs are that they've made the right call (for once) and rolled back their decision.

hmmm k ... i'll look for it in the app store , but doubt it's there ...

I also really enjoy the Zorin Forum experience and I love the rich features. It's miles ahead of the old style forum, like the Mint one for example, which is just like the one I made for equestrian friends back in the 2000s. Even though I run Mint Cinnamon too, I rarely visit the forum. This one is far superior in every way (including the Mods and users!).

Update: Zorin OS forum app is not a mistery, it is an old story :grinning:.
