Weird Colors in the Gnome Shell

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

I'm searching for a Thread that we had a while ago here. It was about an Issue with weird Colors in the Gnome Shell when using a Theme. Some Pictures as Example:

I know that we had a Thread about that Issue but I can't find him anymore. As You can see the Accent Color is not right shown. On the left Side the white-ish Color is like it should but going to the right it mixes with the blue (the default Zorin Blue I guess).

I know that I musst change something in the .css File and that is the Reason why I search the Thread. If I remember right, there should stand what Value/Values I must change.

Was it this one? New themes not working as expected

or: Zorin OS 17 appearance/theme issue

or: Change the "text selection" or "highlight" color

Thank You!

The Thread that I meant was the second One. But the Way to the Soulution is in the first One, hahaha! But the Value there wasn't the right One; I tried it. But it seems that the Region is the right.

So, here is a copy from the popup-menu from my Theme (Graphite-Dark):

.popup-menu {
  min-width: 12em;
  color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.7);
  padding: 0;
  font-weight: normal;
  font-size: 10pt;
}

.popup-menu .popup-menu-content {
  padding: 6px;
  background-color: #2C2C2C;
  border-radius: 12px;
  box-shadow: 0 3px 8px 0 rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.15);
  margin: 4px 10px 12px;
  font-weight: normal;
  border: 2px solid #E0E0E0;
}

.popup-menu .popup-menu-item {
  spacing: 9px;
  padding: 6px;
  color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.7) !important;
  text-shadow: none;
  border-radius: 6px;
  margin: 0;
  font-weight: normal;
}

.popup-menu .popup-menu-item:checked {
  font-weight: normal;
  border: none;
  box-shadow: none;
  color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.87) !important;
  background-color: #E0E0E0 !important;
  border-radius: 6px 6px 0 0 !important;
}

.popup-menu .popup-menu-item:checked:focus, .popup-menu .popup-menu-item:checked:hover, .popup-menu .popup-menu-item:checked.selected {
  color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.87) !important;
  background-color: #ededed !important;
}

.popup-menu .popup-menu-item:checked:active {
  color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.87) !important;
  background-color: lightgray !important;
}

.popup-menu .popup-menu-item:checked:insensitive {
  color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.38) !important;
}

.popup-menu .popup-menu-item:focus, .popup-menu .popup-menu-item:hover, .popup-menu .popup-menu-item.selected {
  color: white !important;
  background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.12) !important;
  transition-duration: 0;
}

.popup-menu .popup-menu-item:active, .popup-menu .popup-menu-item.selected:active {
  color: white !important;
  background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.3) !important;
}

.popup-menu .popup-menu-item:insensitive {
  color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.3) !important;

I have the Feeling that it could be the Values .popup-menu .popup-menu-item:checked or .popup-menu .popup-menu.item:checked:active but I'm not sure at all. May a Specialist here knows the right Answer and can tell me what Value or Values I have to change.

I changed the Category from Customization to General Help because it is now a more concrete Help Request.

As this is now a call for technical assistance, can the thread title be changed to something that better describes your problem, e.g. "Weird Colors in the Gnome Shell".

If you want me to make that change for you, just say in reply. I didn't want to change the title unilaterally and you not then recognising the thread you started. Zab

I wonder if anything here will help you: Question to change colors with CSS - #6 by Aravisian

Sorry, I forgot that. I change the Title.

Thank You again for the Link. I tried to play a bit with the Transparency Value but unfortunately it didn't changed something.

Yes, I tried that but it makes no Difference.

What exactly do You mean with ''view''?

After some technicals Issues I tested some Things:

I switched to X11 to control if the Problem exists there and yes, it exists there, too.

I deleted the Zorin Blue Theme (Light and Dark) but it didn't helped.

Then I took the Theme and made it in the usr Path. But this didn't helped, too. So ... I think it must be done in the .css File.

Thank You for Your Suggestions. I tried the Saturation with 1 and with 0 but nothing changed. I will try the Thing with the rgba instead of the hex Code.

Okay, Ladies and Gentlemen!

I have an Update. I simply wanted install a GDM Theme from the Graphite GTK Theme. For this I had to use not the Files from gnome-look.org

Instead I had to use the Installer Script from the Developer's Github Page:

So, I installed the GDM Theme but it didn't worked. I have still the Zorin GDM Theme. I don't know why, but for now that doesn't matter. The Thing is: after the Installation the Themes work in the Gnome Shell without this weird Color Issue:

You see that there are no weird Colors on the Buttons or the Writings. I took a closer Look at it and as far as I understand this, the Installer Script for the GDM Theme touches the File /use/share/gnome-shell/theme/ZorinBlue-Light/gnome-shell-theme.gresource

And the Change on this File seems to clear this. I will make some more Tests with other Themes to see if it works and give then an Update.

Next Update:

I tested it with other Themes (Orchis, Dracula, Gruvbox) and it works. I double-checked it and uninstalled the GDM Theme and the Color Issue was active again. After installing it and make a Restart the Gnome Shell Themes are working without the Issue.

So, at this Point I let it installed. But I don't mark this as a Solution because in my Eyes it isn't really a Solution. In best Case I would call it a Workaround. At this Point I would think that this is some Kind of Bug in Zorin.

but how to change to look like you?

You need to install gnome-tweaks or gnome-extension-manager and then enable user themes there.

These are some general guides when not a installation script is used.

As @Ponce-De-Leon mentioned that there were no weired colors when using the installation script I would follow this method.

Install the following packages:

sudo apt install sassc gnome-themes-extra gtk2-engines-murrine

Download graphite theme and unzip it. Go the folder where the file was unzipped and then right click "open terminal here" and run the installation script by entering
./install.sh
You can also determine special looks here by adding flags, e.g., and to add the libadwaita theming.

./install.sh -l --tweaks nord

Afterwards you can choose the graphite dark theme in Zorin appearance.

I'm not sure what's the used icon theme. Maybe it is self made? Ponce-De-Leon can surely tell you. You would have to install one/select one separately.
Grey stone is also one that fits well to the dark graphit theme if you want to have a black - white look.

You mean the Theme and the Icons?

The Theme is Graphite Dark and the Icons are the Simply Circles White Icons (but I have silghtly modified the Symbolic Icons).

Or do You want a Step-by-Step Guide for set that up?

uhh i mean how to get that color my color at first was like you

Could you please describe in more detail what you would like to do? If you don't speak English well, you can use a translation service or write in your own language.
If you have the problem that you are using a custom theme and it has strange color gradients, you can also try this solution:

If you just want to set a special accent color in a custum theme this is not possible with Zorins accent colors. You would have to choose a gtk theme in a special color or edit the css files of your theme.

So, You mean how the Colors are right?

I downloaded the Theme from the Github Page that @Forpli has already linked above. On the Github Page, go to the green ''Code'' Button, click on it and from the Dropdown Menu choose the .zip File:

When downloaded, extract the File (Double-Click on it and in the opening Window click on the ''Extract Button'' at the top left). Open the Folder and then go to the right Side of the Pathbar and click on the 3 Dots and choose the Option ''Open in Terminal'' (Example Picture):

In the opening Terimal Window, You type sudo ./install.sh -g and after this, You have to make a Reboot and then the Theme Colors of a Non-Zorin Theme should fit. So, it worked it my Case.

Of Course, You can try theMethod that @Forpli has linked, too.
