On the Zorin's website for the official download for Zorin 17 pro you can read at frequently asked questions
"Will I get access to future updates of Zorin OS Pro?
The purchase will give you access to Zorin OS 17 Pro as well as future updates within the 17 release series, such as upcoming point releases. Zorin OS 18 Pro will need to be purchased separately when it will be released in the future. We will continue to support Zorin OS 17 with software updates until at least June 2027, and you will be able to use Zorin OS 17 Pro for life."
Background – messed up my Arch Linux install and wanted to try something else.
Observations:
Slow compared to Arch w/KDE. Slow compared to any distro with KDE. By slow I mean general response of input actions and windows movement.
Window management seems problematic – sometimes I cant close a window and there is a general lag when moving windows around
Have had to “force close” file management many times
Themes management seems botched, but worked around that with Gnome Tweak tool
Two wallpapers only?
Icon themes seem to not “stick” – have changed it back to my preferred theme several times now
I cant pair my Bluetooth keyboard – not able to provide the code for pairing
Hardware works otherwise. Nice surprise to see the NIC on my dock actually working – super issue with newer kernels. My dual screen setup works.
Have my basic apps installed and working. Biggest issue probably the overall lag compared to KDE. But, nice so far and I guess it will get even better going forward.
I think I have already made my position clear that I won't be trying the Beta of 18 or the final release. Whilst all the feedback might be useful for Team Zorin, I can't help but feel that because of the way Gnome is progressively moving from bad to worse (unless of course you are a fan of Gnome Devs telling you what you can and can't do; reminiscent of Microsoft - when I was studying for Microsoft Office Professional, you had to do things the Microsoft way - which usually meant three things when I would have done two in my work-a-day setting!).
I do feel Zorin has missed an opportunity to offer Plasma as an alternative to Gnome. I appreciate that is what they grew up with and know it (relatively) inside out, but I think it is going to be harder this time around, I hope I get proven wrong.
Again, Windows 10 Migrators might be looking for something more familiar:
I wanted to come back to it again, I found out that it was probably because zorin os has its own package sources. That's why it should come, so I think.
Just so you know, every version of Windows costed money, usually 100 for the home version, 200 for the PRO version. This is back when Windows was the product, & they were selling it so hard, nobody ever knew that there was a thing called Linux.
Flash forward to modern day, Windows 10 & Windows 11, why do people think their free? Its because Windows is no longer the product anymore. The product is people's data, to use for AI, and totally infringe on people's privacy, to get it. In essence, you are the product, and can get away with paying you nothing for it.
I'm running Zorin 18 Beta on a 2017 Macbook Air 8/256 and it works great! I used a USB WiFi to get installed, then easily downloaded and installed the native wifi drivers. Everything else works perfectly, boots fast, and I was able to run everything I need. Looking forward to this becoming final so I can buy it!
Has anyone else experienced double logging in (as if there were two different login screens) after their computer locked due to inactivity? And after logging in, the system reloads everything from scratch.
I wonder if this is a bug or if something got mixed up on my end.
There have been similar issues reported about this. Please make sure to use the Feedback form (already pinned in the taskbar) to report this directly to the developers.
I have already experienced this in Linux Mint XFCE when my laptop went into suspend automatically because of inactivity. For me it helped to disable
automatic screen lock. In gnome you can find this setting at privacy. Maybe it helps to avoid double password requests on your system, too.
I updated today my Zorin 18 Beta Installation and there were a lot of Updates including a Taskbar Update. After Installation, I made a Reboot because of a Kernel Update. And as the System was back ... my Taskbar looked like this:
It is empy, has the wrong Postion and obviously has nothing on it. The right-click Menu is still working for it. I rebooted again because I thought, that it might be
loaded right or so but nothing has changed. I looked in the Extension Manager an got this Error:
I wasn't able to disable the Taskbar Extension (could move the Toggle but didn't had an Effect). I tried it with uninstalling but when I would uninstall the Taskbar a whole lot of Zorin-realted Packages like other Extensions and the zorin-os-desktop Package would be uninstalled, too.
I will see how it is when I will use a reinstall Command.
We found that there was a regression recently introduced into the taskbar code. The regression caused this behaviour to happen when intellihide was enabled and the user logged out of the account and logged back in.
We've since resolved it in a new software update which will be published in the main software repositories shortly. However, if you wish to test this fix in the meantime, you can follow these steps:
It seems to me like there is a bug with keyboard layouts. I have 2 layouts installed (FR / RU), and I have opted for keeping active layout for each window (see image below). Nevertheless, the active layout is the same for all active windows (1st option in the figure).
It worked fine in 17.3 Pro though.
