You also make a good point about the load on the servers. I think I will go make a cup of tea and tackle a few other things and check again later today.
Thank you for your help @Storm it is greatly appreciated and I hope you have an excellent rest of your day.
Direct upgrades from Zorin OS 17 to 18 will be available in the coming weeks. Stay tuned to our newsletter to be among the first to know when you can upgrade.
I decided to install Zorin OS 18 — mainly because I watched this video: Video. What really caught my attention was the ability to install Word and Excel as web applications on Zorin OS.
I started researching a direct upgrade path from version 17 to 18, but it seems like there’s no way to do that.
So, I began downloading Zorin OS 18 Core from a Ukrainian server, which seemed faster than others (I’m located in Turkiye).
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to finish the download even after about an hour. But I’m not giving up!
Next, I’ll prepare my USB stick for the installation.
I just hope the hardware drivers in version 18 will work as well as they did in 17. My laptop is a Lenovo ThinkPad L530.
If I succeed, I’ll try to post an update here.
Bye for now!
When I query Grok it says the diect upgrade to 18 is fully available. When I try the upgrade it says it is not available. This has been now more than a few weeks. Any update on the availability of the direct upgrade?
A.I. is not a credible source for up to date information, especially concerning releases.
It operates by statistical pattern recognition and probability mimicry. Not on reviewing facts and vetting them.
That it speaks authoritatively and with confidence lends it an air of knowing what it is talking about, even when it invents information.
The Zorin Upgrader tool/path is currently in Beta Testing and available for Public Testing. The results of this will determine its Official Full release.
However... this means you can use it.
In terminal, please run
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
Once that is done - launch the upgrader and relay if it offers Zorin OS 18...
I ran this in Terminal and ran updater and still get the message that 18 is not yet available. I am running 17.3 Pro. From what I understand, 18 will load for me directly from the updater without the need for a seperate download? I guess it is just a matter of when?
@ronbillock
In your profile is shown that you use Zorin Pro Lite. If you have the lite version there is no upgrade available because Zorin 18 Lite and Zorin 18 Pro Lite have not been released yet.
The system will never be upgraded automatically to the next higher version without your explicit authorization.
As soon as the upgrade will be available (however, this takes a while after the release of the Lite version; in the case of Zorin 18 Pro, almost three months have passed and the upgrade tool is still in the beta phase), you can click on it and don't need to download the .iso separately. However, you will need a new license for Zorin 18 Pro Lite.
I upgraded to Zorin 18 Pro from 17 Pro. My Files (Nautilus) does not work. Both from my task bar and from my Software selection it does nothing. How do I fix this?
