NVram Locked (Zorin not found in efibootmgr)

I recently got a new ASUS ROG laptop with a GeForce 40xx GPU. It came with windows 11 pre-installed. I want to be able to dual boot windows with zorin. I have been able to successfully install Zorin on two of my computers before, but not on this one. I have been running into NVram Locked errors. I was able to find another thread on the forum that describes the error, but none of the solutions have worked (I haven't tried to take the battery out of my computer). I have turned off secure boot, I have turned off fast boot, I have tried running boot repair (many times). I have tried re-installing it fresh. Nothing has worked. I am wondering if there are some more potential solutions that people have seen. I have been trying to do this for about 5 hours now and am at my end...

I am also considering wiping windows off of my computer with the install, would this immediately work? or would I have the same issue?

Is TPM turned off, too?
And Fast Start-Up in Windows?
And did You looked that Your Drives are set up in AHCI and not in a RAID?
Are Your Drives encrypted?
IS Your BIOS in UEFI or Legacy Mode?
What Tool did You use for creating the bootable USB Stick?

Don't do that.
If you want to create a dual-boot arrangement, it is always best to start with Windows already installed.

If you answer the questions posed by @Ponce-De-Leon, then we will be better informed what you have done so far, so we can offer better guidance.

Is TPM turned off, too?

For my BIOS, I think that I am unable to turn it off. I haven't been able to find any setting related to it. I am trying to do research to even see if my BIOS allows it.

And Fast Start-Up in Windows?

I turned it off

And did You looked that Your Drives are set up in AHCI and not in a RAID?

I am still trying to figure this out. It is not readily viewable in my BIOS

Are Your Drives encrypted?

I turned off the encryption of bitlocker.

IS Your BIOS in UEFI or Legacy Mode?

It is UEFI.

What Tool did You use for creating the bootable USB Stick?

Balena Etcher

Okay, I would suggest to try it with Rufus instead of Etcher and on rufus take Care to use on ''Partition Sheme'' GPT for Your UEFI BIOS:

And when You have installed Zorin: What Installation Option did you take? ''Install Zorin alongside Windows'' or the ''Something else'' Option?

I will try with Rufus. I believe that I have tried both "Install Zorin alongside Windows" and the "Something else" option.

I did this with Rufus and GPT partitioning. It did not work... Any other recommendations. I have still been unable to tell if my drives are AHCI or RAID and I haven't been able to interact with my TPM.

May be there's a BIOS update that fix the issue? It's not the first time a BIOS update solved installation problems. Just a thought.

I updated the BIOS, but it still hasn't made any difference. I am going to try using boot-repair again an see if that helps with anything. See if I get an informative error message

Try pop os 22.04 first. They use a slightly newer kernel. Might worth a try.

I tried POP OS and it was able to successfully download. I am currently typing this response from POP. I am content staying with POP for a while, but prefer Zorin :upside_down_face:. This is much better than nothing though . Hopefully there is an update to Zorin that is able to work with my system like POP was.

Glad you got it running, Pop! OS will be much better in 2-3 months.

So it is possible it’s kernel related. You can also install the Pop! OS kernel into Zorin OS. But if this does not work you have to redo everything again which is time consuming.

@AZorin, kernel related ?

Pop OS uses a kernel number one higher than Zorin, so that might explain.

As the computer has a modern NVIDIA graphics card, we would recommend booting the Zorin OS USB Install Drive with the "Try or install Zorin OS (modern NVIDIA drivers)" option before installing Zorin OS to the computer.

In our experience with similar customer support queries, we've also found that changing the computer's boot mode from "BIOS" / "Legacy" to "UEFI" typically resolves the "NVRAM locked" issue. If there is a "Load CSM" option in the BIOS Settings screen, setting it to "Never" could also help.
However, it looks like the OP's computer is already set to UEFI mode.

If the source of the issue is indeed related to an incompatibility with the hardware and the kernel version, I want to mention that the Linux kernel in Zorin OS 17 is expected to be updated to version 6.11 next month or in March, ahead of the launch of Zorin OS 17.3. This would exceed the Linux kernel version 6.9 in Pop OS 22.04.

A big Kernel Update. That sounds interesting.
