Hi,

Just like some members have posted, I'm also encountering the same issue where the mouse cursor turns into a spinning icon (indicating background activity) when interacting with certain areas of the screen during application launches.

Where can I find the command(s) that are executed when launching an application from the taskbar?

Hi dudes. Of course Wait cursor makes one feel that the operating system is slow... But in Zorin OS i didnt know whats happen with some applications. When launch some applications from taskbar i get waiting/bussy cursor. For example if i open Software app through taskbar i get bussy cursor till app launch has been completed. Waiting cursor with GNOME?

Is there any way to get GNOME desktop launch shortcuts to show the waiting cursor when you double click on them? It's somewhat annoying to double click then have nothing happen for a few seconds before the app comes up. I tried setting StartupNotify=true but that doesn't seem to work.

1. Press the Super (Win) key.
2. Type in the name of any application (e.g., Brave) and press the Enter key to launch it.
3. Move the mouse to the title bar of the application or the top taskbar (if applicable). The mouse cursor turns into a spinning icon.
4. Move the mouse inside the application window. The mouse cursor reverts to the regular pointer.

Additional Observations:

• During this time, Xorg CPU activity reaches up to 1.00% as shown in the System Monitor.
• This behavior persists with every application launch and affects usability.

Diagnosis:

• Display Server: The system is running on Xorg.
• Graphics Configuration:
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Mobile
  • Driver: nvidia-driver-550 (proprietary, installed and in use)
  • CUDA Version: 12.4
  • The system also detects an AMD GPU (amdgpu), which is set as the primary display adapter.
• Log Observations:
  • GNOME Shell is configured to use shadow buffers and atomic mode setting for both GPUs.
  • Primary GPU: /dev/dri/card1 (AMD GPU).
  • /usr/lib/xorg/Xorg frequently shows activity during this issue.

Is this a known issue on Zorin OS Pro 17.2, or is there a workaround to prevent the spinning icon from appearing during application launches? Just adding that I have similar config but haven't faced the spinning icon issue on Zorin OS Pro 17.2, so it's unlikely to be an OS bug and more a unique combination of hardware and software.

My current config, where I can't reproduce the issue:

• AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS with Radeon
• NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Mobile + AMD integrated GPU
• Zorin OS 17.2 x86_64
• Kernel: 6.8.0-49-generic
• GNOME 43.9 (Mutter)
• nvidia-driver-550 (Proprietary)
