Revised Zorin OS 18 r1 images released

Hi everyone!

Just a quick heads up that we released a revised set of .isos for Zorin OS 18 (r1) today.

These updated images come with all of the latest software updates, security patches, and drivers out of the box. They also come with fixes that we've implemented for some bugs reported by the community post-launch, including the following:

  • The E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) error while installing Zorin OS 18 on some computers (see threads 1 and 2). This was caused by an issue when the installer attempted to upgrade the NVIDIA driver and kernel after booting the Zorin OS USB Install Drive with the "modern NVIDIA drivers" option.
  • An issue that would cause some non-default cursor themes to not apply fully throughout the system (see this thread).
  • Some apps and features weren't working correctly for some users due to a few faulty pre-installed Apparmor profiles. This included Samba, a feature which allows you to share files & folders over your local network from the Files app (see threads 1, 2, and 3).
    • If you previously installed Zorin OS 18 and are experiencing this issue, please open the Terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and enter this command to apply the fix, before restarting your computer: sudo apt remove apparmor-profiles

The newly-revised Zorin OS 18 r1 .isos should improve the out-of-the-box experience for all new users.

I assume if the old ISO was installed, the system would just simply update, to the new R1 improvement stack? Thank you for fixing some bugs, as OS 18 has not been a smooth transition, for a lot of people.

Yes, you should get most of the improvements and bug fixes automatically when you install the latest software updates.

The only exception is the fix for the Apparmor profiles issue – which may affect Samba file sharing on some systems. To apply that fix on existing installations of Zorin OS 18, open the Terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and enter this command before restarting your computer: sudo apt remove apparmor-profiles
